We rely heavily on volunteers to help us run most
of our shows but especially the unaffiliated One Day Events and twice-yearly
British Eventing Horse Trials, and without them these events could not be run to
generate essential revenue which helps us to
keep subscriptions and entry fees as low as practicable.
Cancelling such
events would be a significant detriment to the Club's overall
financial viability, so it is also in your own interests to help whenever you can in order to safeguard the Club's very existence as well as minimising your
personal participation costs.
As well as these
bigger events most of the other Dressage, Showjumping and Cross-country shows
are just as important but require few volunteers, although it would be helpful
to have a standby available in case of absence as there are fewer people to cover
any gaps.
You don't
necessarily need to commit to a full day (although for continuity it helps us if you can)
and many people who already help can only manage a morning or afternoon, so
your half-day would help us to cover these vacancies.
If you feel that you are not qualified
to help because you wouldn't know what to do then you could always
come and work with a more experienced volunteer to "learn the ropes",
and at OD and BE events there is a full briefing for cross-country fence judges.
Whilst
some functions necessarily require a degree of horse awareness, in most cases it is just a matter of common sense
and well within the capabilities of anyone who has ever competed - more a matter of "being
on the other side of the fence" (often literally !).
Even if you are not 'horsey' there are
many admin jobs which either do not demand any horse knowledge at all or others
that just require an instinct for
self-preservation, and we can always use some help setting up the day before,
resetting everything between days and clearing up afterwards.
Apart from
joining a friendly team and seeing at first hand how a big event comes together, in return
you will receive voucher(s) to use at the Club and on a full day be provided
with a snack lunch. Please phone or email the Office if you can
